Hi,
I think lowering your prices during this time is so the wrong thing to do!
It will drive prices so low that quality will be jepoardised know matter what anyone says.
But guys think of this another way, its a great time to start selling ourselves, our service and the quality products we all use.
Try givin your customers something free when you quote ! Tell them you will pick up all the tiles and materials ,it might just tip it in your favour and cost you an hour !
Make a point of the fact your going to be priming all surfaces and why, how many of us do this and dont even mention it ? It gives credibilty and genuine likability and the next guy who quotes does not mention it, well instantly you will be percieved as more experienced or more knowledgable etc
Now if 2 tilers go to Mrs Smith on just measures and gives her a price, then we come along explain how we would be happy to pick up all the materials or seal the kitchen floor grout to keep it pristine or replace all the old door plates F.O.C. Mrs Smith might just feel like she is dealing with someone who cares .
I think that it is service which might just win in these tough times.
From my experience people want Value, not necessarily Cheaper
Just my thoughts on it, lets keep our integrity and
standards high and just sell more benefits of our service or give a bit of your time to help the whole job move along , thats what customers want.
I spent an afternoon in october with a client actually picking tiles with them, in my own time and got 2 weeks work out of it . They did not even look at another quote because my service was more than just stickin tiles down.
Lets kick this recessions butt chaps and come out of it better than we were.
Rally the troops Darling
