Made me cringe

One of the jobs I am doing lately is following on from another "tiler" , he has done work throughout the this house and I am now trying to put it right. Even I am now admitting defeat and insisting on ripping it all out and starting again. The shower room floor was tanked with Impey Tilesafe but did not go up the wall at all.
There was no fall to the outlet. the Outlet wasnt tanked to the floor ...infact it was floating around in the floor void. Had any water been put on the floor it would have sat there until it flowed into the bedroom.
They have piped UFH but it would never warm the floor due to the pips...once again floating around in the floor space and not anywhere near the floor. The Outlet grill looks like it is of the vinyl flooring type and wasnt even screwed.
Where the floor started you could insert a screwdriver into a void between the tile and Membrane ...it went in 200mm. i took the two tiles up in the door way and the photo is below along with others.

I stole the avatar from Turkish Tiler this morning although I used to have it in a sig line once....Supposedly a quote by Red Adair.
And yes Shocking ! you should see the slate kitchen floor cut around the units.....with his teeth no doubt....and this a tiler that gets work through a well known store near by.

Am i the only one really getting pished off with what seems to be a massive influx of rough *** so called tilers..


I know it is work for good tilers to put these jobs right but it is the customers i feel sorry for as not all went for a cheap job..

This job is for an ex pop star ( not that it matters , just name dropping :smilewinkgrin and he doesnt seem to care. The whole house is being rebuilt ...he would be better off selling it and buying a bigger place as its far too small for his lifestyle and family.
He just pays out and I am on day rate !!

Yes Dave you are right about the massive influx etc etc , but the clients keep having these guys and those guys keep getting away with it !

I know exactly how these people get away with it. The customers don't deserve the crap they receive but they have to take some of the blame, 3 tilers quote for a job and one comes in £500 or whatever less than the others and the customer says lets go with that one regardless. Until the customers learn that the cheapest quote is not the best they will continue to get jobs like these. I'm not saying it's right but that's what it's like.

Agree with you to a point, however I know some guys who charge full whack and still don't own a serrated trowel!
