I used to make a different version of my CV for every job I apply for, change the covering letter to match what they're asking for skills-wise, and change your CV (don't lie!) by highlighting what you've done in your previous roles that match the job you're applying for.

Though I'm sure it'd be different now, I haven't applied for a job for many years, but I used to get the interview 100% of the time, and only didn't get one job I applied for in my whole life and that was when I was 17 and didn't use a CV to get the foot in the door.

Do a really good CV and it'll pay dividends. Don't cheat though. Just highlight matching roles.
