Hi, Guys,
I have just joined your forum as I have often read your great and informative comments and even though I have been a builder for many years you are never to old to learn. I have a question for all you professional tilers out there.
I have had a Screedflo liquid floor laid (with underfloor heating) put down a couple of months ago (now dry) throughout a new building and have now sealed it with two coats of SBR. In the swimming pool area because we purchased some thicker pool coping than originally intended it has meant we have been left with a 25mm depth to allow for the Travertine tiles to be laid in here. We had also purchased the same tile last year and it was 15mm thick but now can only purchase these in 12mm. I was wondering instead of making up the shortfall of 8-9mm with a self levelling compound whether I could make up my own self levelling compound out of something like play-pit sand, cement, SBR and water or in fact lay the tiles straight onto a similar self made compound?
Perhaps I am being ridiculous, its just sometimes you can purchase the most expensive compounds and then find out later it is made up of something much simpler and cheaper or something you already use will do sufficiently well.
Does anyone have any experience of something similar or any advice would be much appreciated.
