The company I work for supplies us with 18v Makitas. I generally get through one every 6 months but they are very heavily used. Last time round I got them to get me the drill driver rather than the hammer drill so I wouldn't be tempted to use it instead of getting the Cordless SDS out. This one looks like lasting better.

It's horses for courses really. If you get the drill and start using it for loads of masonry drilling it's not going to last. Use it mainly on rotary only and don't overload it and it should be fine.

I've had the makita from Screwfix for around 15 months now. It tends to get used for screwdriving, though it will drill masonery holes using good quality universal bits (Irwin or Bosch). Havins said that I don't use the hammer setting in anger, and its for light use - I wouldn't attach a core drill to it

B and Q have a cracking deal on at the moment, two makita drills, ( one combi, one drill driver) 2 batterys, 1 charger in a plastic moulded carry case all for £98 inc vat
Bought myself 4 cases, 2 weeks ago for the plastering training centre and they are excellent

Have been for a set today buy they are 14.4v drills, I was wanting jigsaw and grinder so will have to look at screwfix.

Sounds like there are some good deals going, I paid £280 for my 18 V Makita 3 years ago

A lot depends if they are with the Lithium Batteries I think but if you only use them occasionally £99 is enough to spend I think IMO

i bought the screwfix 99 quid deal makita with 3 batteries its 18v.....however i use it for mixing addy and it gets far too hot ,basically i can see it getting burnt out using it for this
