Hi, I'm thinking of buying some 300mmx300mmx10mm sq polished marble tiles for bathroom walls and floor, which will also be in shower. Is there anything I need to know about laying these as opposed to normal ceramic? Also, do you impregnate/seal polished marble?

Thanks
BT

Hello and welcome...

You need to make sure you have a suitable substrate / background to tile too..

What substrate do you have..?

And what marble is it.?

as dave and john here! hope you aren't planning on going straight onto plasterboard:dizzy2:

Hi, thanks, I'm going to use hardibacker which will be fixed to a wooden frame (no plasterboard on the wall).

The polished marble sample I have seems so shiny that it looks like nothing would stick to it, but I guess that's an illusion? So will I need just sealing or impregnating as well?

The marble is Crema Valencia from Spain, pic here http://www.veronamarble.com/art/marble/crema-velencia-lrg.jpg

Thanks again

A suitable inpregnator will be fine then..

I use LTP mattstone or Sealers choice gold..

As for adhesive then a white SPF flex ..... i always use flex just to make sure of a 100% installation on walls.

Thanks alot. The impregnator and sealant will deffo stick to the polished surface then? I know you said that but I thought it looked like nothing would stick to it, so sorry to be asking for confirmation.

And these will go on the floor as well, hope that's ok - it will be boarded first.

Follow the advice above and you wont go to wrong.
Just make sure you work clean and wash off any adhesive that gets on the face of the tile straight away.

It will yes if you use an impregnator..

Best way for you to see is get a tile and lay it flat... put a large droplet of water on it and leave for approx half hr,, then wipe off and see if a wet patch is left..

If so ,then you will know the surface tension will let moisture through. but i can deffo tell you that it will need sealing..

This will help with spills on the surface that consist of oily residues etc..

Brilliant, taa. One spoon of water applied to sample tile.....
watch this space :dizzy2:

One coat impregnator and one coat of sealant?
