Mind yer language!

Is it me or are people swearing more and more these days? I didnt notice it till a site manager rang me and said have a word with your boys they where swearing their heads of when the client came round today.

I didnt say anything because its part and parcel of working on a site, however I went on a site visit last week with one of my lads and I got to admit, they were all fing and blinding. In the end I had to say, calm the swearing down will you theres no need for it.

Are people swearing more or is it me? Im probably in the doghouse now for speaking up.

I think people do swear more generally nowadays, me included! Our little one is just starting to talk now so I'm making a conscious effort to pack it in, not really necessary is it though.

I think people are swearing more, too. I noticed the other day there are no 'bleeps' on TV any more, are there, the F*** seems to be acceptable now?? It's Britain dumming down, sad, English is a beautiful languange, but it's becoming more and more limited, shame.

When I was a teenager starting work there was an unwritten code about not swearing in front of women which is something I still adhere to a fair degree. What you're maybe noticing is that that seems to have gone over recent years.

I for one have stopped most of my language because of the kids, i feel i have to protect them for as long as possible.

There is no swearing on my FB page. Actually, I unfriended a tiler on FB because of all the swearing going on on his wall, and it showed on my homepage and was just so negative and depressing!

Don't swear much, and no one's aloud to on any of my jobs.... especially in front of a customer.

I like that idea Stewart. I never swear infront of customers but on the odd occasion I've had a labourer with me I get let down by them swearing, it can be awkward and embarrassing. The worst culprit is a mate of mine who is a marine, he helps me out when he is on leave and can't seem to leave the foul language behind when he comes home.

sounds like you were nicely brought up, and yes I think you are right, more swearing, as Pebbs also noticed, seems pretty universal, I am SO glad that TF is choosing not to go down that road. I overheard two tradesmen, one of them a decorator, in the small local supermarket today, and they were effing and blinding about a customer, looked scruffy as hell, and I made a note not ever to give them a job - along with everyone else that passed them by the looks on their faces - just bad form really.

My scaffolders taught the neighbourhood kids a few new words, but then thats scaffolders for you!

I find that refraining from swearing most times makes the words actually effective when it is fitting to use them.
Then they really do what they are supposed to.
Using them all the time robs them of their power and makes one look vulgar and low class.

I swore yesterday while working in a ladies house but only because I dropped my cordless drill on my finger and it really hurt. I apologised and thankfully she laughed it off. but yes, it's not nice to swear all the time, especially when its unneccessary.
