mixing addy and grout?

How do you guys and gals mix your addy and grout?By this i mean do you measure it out like it says on the bag or do you mix it to the consistence you want to work with?

If measure it out do you carry scales about way you?

I don't scales for addy just mix it to what is right really but if unsure follow instructions on the bag for few times then you will get what kind of texture you will need

I just mix it to how I want it. Sometimes when doing a 'hilly' floor I need to have the addy thicker than usual. It's all done on texture....no scales required. I also mix everything by hand i.e. no power tools.

If it's a rapid addy I will mix by hand but if it's just a spf then will mix in bulk with a paddle

Just mix it to the right thickness by eye, comes with practise.

i measure my water for mapei grouts in a small measuring jug. makes life so much easier. i use a cheap wicker hammer drill to mix everything. its so much easier and creates a much better mixture for me

for a newbie I'd recommend going by the instructions on the bag, experience gives "a feel" for what's the right consistency imo

Cos of using the products i use for a good 12 months i know what it should be like ie;consistency,but if i use a new product or different from the everyday stuff i use then i`ll go by the manufacturers specs to get a feel of what it should be.

No, not hard going, as I mix enough rapidset for about 2sqm at a time. Then again if I was any faster at laying the tiles then I would probably invest in a mixer. But then again.......most domestic jobs i.e. bathrooms & kitchens are quite small. Cheers Sean

Mix by hand aswel, this way you can get the feel of the texture and consistancy that you want. On the floors I mostly use Mapei plus which goes off pretty quick, soI only mix in small quantities ie to do about 5 sq mt at a time.

DO you mix SLC by hand as well then?

Through experience you know when the mix is right but i always make sure it sticks to the trowel then falls off, in other words, 'its not like ****e off a shovel'

i always mix it by hand to get the right texture i want,as i prefer addy for floors to be quite thick and my wall stuff a bit softer!
