montilit advice?

Hi to all my good tiling buddies!!!
Today i recieved my first montolit push cutter!!! i'm a sigma fan.
Thought i'd chance a change so i spotted a limited edition ducati coloured minipiuma 26P on ebay with quicksplit so went for it.
Could you tell me about using it please? ok i set tile on,set wheel on edge and push ! then lift handle to release the breaker and push down at 40mm or so from edge.Ok then my main question- do i have to use my left hand to lift the breaker back up out of the way all the time???

I have never used the Minipiuma Joe but if it is anything like my masterpiuma, the dropping breaker is for mosaics etc. Normally you just push to score and then push down on the handle. There should be 2 metal breaking pads machined into the bottom.

No you shouldn't need to physically lift the breaker, just pushing to score on you next tile will push it out of the way.

interesting vid, the first straight cut he didn't lift the handle to drop breaker but he did for the mosaics and the 45 cut! .

i have to confess that thanks to my mate swe , i am now a montolit user!!

i swore by rubi until i got to use a monti masterpiuma 63 and it is superb. the new rubi ti-66s is by far the best in the rubi range but the larger breaking handle on the monti is more effective and the cut is cleaner everytime than the rubi!!

so i hold my hand up swe and say you were right!! i sold my ti-66s for 180 and broke even and got a great discount on the monti £195!! just need to buy a mini moni now??

what i will say is, the rubi wet cutters are excellent. i would have the dw200n/250n over the dewalt all day long.

That's because the scoring wheel would impact the tile with those types of cut Joe. With the straight cut the scoring wheel goes past the end of the tile to allow the main breaker to come into action.

montolit are excellent. rubi definately have the market share in england but when you use a monti you have to ask yourself why?? i believe that montolit and sigma are family run business's who dont believe in bowing to the masses. they build x amount a year and they decide who they sell too. they wont just let anybody who buy in bulk control them..good on them, quality and integrity

I used both monty and Rubi during my training and I saw advantages with each of them. For me, the Monty covered more bases with the one cutter than the rubi did. I can't imagine not having one now.

The main issue people bring up with the monty is not being able to see the scoring wheel. After you get used to it, it is very rare that you actually have to bend down and look where the wheels sits before you cut. I have even developed a technique where I can line up angled cuts from marks on the tile without seeing the wheel, and even with a mid-tile start point.

Gonna use my minimonto tomorrow and see how it goes,cut a few tiles tonight for practice and i like the feel of it,i'm cutting marble 10x10s tomorrow so who knows? lol. i cut ceramic and porc tonight so no probs,

Be careful with the marble Joe, I tried with mine and because it was so soft, it has a tendancy to crush! Montolits have the force with them...........

Have you tried the Montolit Bridge cutter?
