Mosaic's

Hi All

I have some mosaics to lay in my new bathroom DIY project. I've bought backer sheets for them to help make them less flexible but just wondered if there was any tricks for installing them.

I was thinking if I laid them face down on a flat surface then applied a very thin layer of adhesive to the back and let set would this not then make 1 flat tile/sheet to install? Then just use less adhesive to install level with main wall tiles?

Just a thought and advise welcome.

Cheers

Michael - although DIY don't make it complicated.
Build the area up with thin flat backer board so it's just less than the thickness of the mosaic.
They need to be a bit flexible so you can straighten them up.
Look under search for 'dog tooth comb' it may provide the answer.

Using the mosaic mesh self adhesive backing?
I rate this for the smaller type mosaics, i put the mosaics on the sheet so they are all spaced right and nice, then comb the adhesive onto the wall or floor whenever your putting them, and skim the back of the mosaic mesh with adhesive to fill all the voids then fit it, jobs a good one. Tap is into place with grout float or whatever

I'm doing a 250 or 300mm border all around the room 1 tile down from the top. I'll be soon at the height of the mosaic but looking at this dog tooth comb method its between 2 tiles, i'll have nothing above it until the mosaics are in. How do I get around that? I might have to use some ply or something to pad it out. The wall adhesive for main tiles was put on using a 10mm trowel (all i had) and the different between normals and mosiacs is only 1mm i think. (main tile specs say 9mm and mosiac 8mm)

I use off cuts of tiles cut to the correct width of the boarder, stick them in with just a blob of adhesive so there easy to get out again then tile above it and when they have gone off remove the off cuts and continue with the dog tooth method. ..🙂

cheers, i'll have a think. so what size trowel do you recommend for mosaics ? is a 6mm one ok or some it have to be lower like 2 to 3mm?

When I do the floor should I do the same as I have a border of 1 wide 25x25mm mosaic im planning on putting in. Could i not just bed this in the same thickness adhesive as the main tiles and use a grout float to push down into adhesive and level with main tile? or do we use less adhesive to stop it pushing through between the mosaics?
