Mountain Bikes????

The kids have them, the missus has one and I'm looking to get a semi decent bike as well

Been looking on Fleabay at a few, but don't really want to drop any clangers

Any advice on which brands to go for/avoid would be greatly appreciated

Mainly roads and pathways I suppose - with a little bit of over grass, etc.. But nothing like down craggy hills and through rivers:lol:

Personally i wouldnt go for suspension or disc brakes then. Also try and get tyres more suitable to roads than track. That will make life easier.

A good hybrid bike then Kev is what you need.
I have a marin mountain bike,i have seen problems with some GT bikes over the last year but i'm sure they're not all bad.
Buy a good bike second hand and you'll get more for your money plus there is big sales on with bikes now and over the coming months as the new 2011 stock is due out asap.

I was out on one recently and it rode beautifully. Picking up something like this second hand is way better than a cheaper quality new version.
Stick with a hard tail IMO, suspension's only good if you're down hilling as it soaks a lot of your pedal energy on the flat making harder work for day to day stuff.

I got a hybrid, never ride it though. The tyres are better as they are road tyres, off road are too noisy and makes hard work on flat surfaces

I'd rather ride through a forest with my mountain bike than ride on a road with some of the loonatics we have driving now !!!
My wife and kids have mountain bikes now too,i cycle with them and then i cycle rougher stuff with mates.
Plus my bikes suspension can be locked off therefore leaving it hard.

Just bought a Specialized Hardrock Sport for £360. Absoulte dream to ride. I live in the sticks and for pathways or roads is ideal. Take a look or try for a ride highly recommend.

Also depends on how much you want to spend as when I was looking it was easy to get carried away!
