has anyone tried this to eliminate the diesel freezing?

read a number of things on the net that they used to add a small amount of petrol to the fill up of diesel to stop it gelling> anyone do this

Heard the same but havent tried it.

yes we used to do that years ago as the cold stopped the diesel atomising through the injectors , no need these days as theres additives in diesel to prevent waxing

garage told me today that my diesel was probably frozen though mike,,he said that a lot of cars are fitted with warm up to prevent this but not the vans??

I wonder if there's any additives you can buy from car shops to put into the diesel tank after filling up then.

Diesel does have an additive but it only works to about -10c.. for gelling and diesel will freeze at -16c..

Adding say a couple quid of petrol to a tank of diesel will work but any more and you will lose power..

my dad used to burn newspapers under his diesel tank, which always seemed a bit risky to me as he worked for Lucas and his lorry used to be full of new car batteries.

lorry drivers used to do small fires under there tanks doug not sure its common place as much now lol

as Dave says you can add petrol to stop waxing but performance does drop off
