need help with adhesive!

its strange cos when i spoke to topps tiles today they said laying tiles on chipboard is fine,they also said pva is fine!!if i over lay it with ply wont the problem of flex in the chipboard still be there?or will the ply rigid it up enough?

Well that say's a lot for TOPPS Tiles then.. major bad advice..

thank everyone for help,just one more thing if i put the ply onto of the chipboard will this be stable enough then?also do i need to primer ply?

hi ross,is the chipboard currently strong enough? if it has a lot of bounce in it then you need to add dwangs(noggins) to secure it,,over boars it with 6mm cement boards is the best option imo

yeah its def strong enough the guy did a very good job building the carcass its braced every foot in a grid pattern with 2x 3, its also the egger chipboard boards that clip together.

if your just laying tiles onto a cement board you do not need a decoupling mat,

ross im not being rude here,but are you not just simply tiling a bathroom floor? if so lay a cement board over the chipboard as thats the lowest height ad on you can get and tile direct to the cement board

using a membrane will be more expensive and is unnecessary

Oh dear ,if you can,take them up before the adhesive has set and clean the tiles up or you will definatly have problems,regarding the chipboard as long as there is no movement whatsoever you should be ok but make sure you give the floor another good strong coat,rgds.

ok i will try and get the tile up now .would it better to go over the top of the chip board with this concrete board or pull it up and plywood down?also where is the cheapest place to get the concrete board from??and what do you cut it with?

its a cement board, if you ask for a concrete board you will get nothing but blank looks
