Thanks to all you guys/gals for your responces to my q's the gear for my wetroom/bathroom is starting to roll in ,one major dilemma whether to lay ufh wire system on my 1300x800 wetroom tray(impey) or not.
Can i just have a quick yey or nay on your opinions you regular wetroom installers.Thanks.
p.s. I know the reasons why maybe not to but if i had any leak issues the drain could be acessed by removing a small downstairs toilet, board ceiling(cheaper and easier than riping the floor up!.

Guys who voted yes on this, would this still be the case with mosaics? If so, I'd be interested to hear your methods, it would seem to be a nightmare to tile mosaics straight over heating mat and and retain smooth falls.....?:mad2:

Makes no difference whether mosaic or not as far as I'm concerned. You need to cover the wires fully with adhesive so the bedding of mosaics will not be a problem or cover the wires with a smoothing compound and, believe me, it is easy to maintain the falls which will result in the desired finish. Just remember that if you are going to adopt the smoothing compound option you need to consider the height of the waste trap as this is often solvent welded in place at a height predetermined by the tile thickness.

I wonder where the SLC would go if you used it on the falls in a shower tray?

Mix it a little thicker John and it will go where you want it to go. Its only covering wires.
I dont use UFH matts, I only use cable so it would not be a problem for me.
I do see Captains point of view though regarding the trap height etc.

Self-levelling compound, does it not self-level?

Now there's a can of worms

Some do, some are better at it than others, some are partial levelling. Bottom line is you can create a 2% fall quite easily even with a good slc.

It does if you mix the correct amount of water, if it had to go onto falls just for the sake of covering wires then common sense tells you to mix a little thicker, better still use tile adhesive for that area.

What happened before the tray formers were available? we laid the falls ourselves, never had any problems as yet.

I think that's what I'm getting at. I'm sure I'd struggle to get the rest of the room all level and at the same time, retain the right degree of falls in the shower area, I was looking to see how the experts overcame that, tx guys...........
