Porcelain Need some advice about 120x60 tiling!!

Hi all

Hope you are all well.

Beginner here, but wanted to get some advice about tiling a small bathroom.

The bathroom has been installed with cement boards in preparation for tilling.

- should I seal the boards with waterproofing where the shower bath area will be?

- the tiles I have are 120x60 porcelain marble effect tiles which are matt. I’m looking to minimise the grout line as much as possible, perhaps 1mm max. Should I use an epoxy grout for longevity or just use standard grout? If so could you recommend me one please?

Thank you for your help in advance.

Hiya. You'll need to waterproof the cement boards because they're not waterproof, just water-resistant.
Watch the weight limits too.
Cement boards can take a lot of weight but tanking liquids will usually mean it reduces a lot.
1mm joints aren't recommended unless you're really confident with the tile quality.
Personally I'd stick with 2mm.
Epoxy grout isn't all that bad especially with large format. You'll have an easy job!

What brand of boards are they ?

Many thanks for your replies.
I was thinking of using a liquid membrane eg: laticrete hydroban or similar.

The boards are hardiebacker 12mm boards.

Any preference on type of epoxy grout which is easy to use and clean off for a beginner?

Thanks

Hi. You don’t need to tank hardibackers. Use hardibacker joint tape on the joints for strength etc. nothing else. A wipe down with a sponge if dusty.
Mapei or Bal poxys are easy to work with.
