I advertise in the local paper too, it comes out once a week. I have been doing ok out of it. I think it depends on your ad and what it says. 4 weks costs me £80, by the second week I got jobs booked in covering that more than 10 times over

The work will come

Sorry, I don't mean to keep asking loads of questions, but you know, we are both in different areas so its not like I will be pinching your work m8 :)

Can I ask you exactly what your advert says?

Mine goes like this: (its on the papers website too):

B.R.H. tiling services, ceramic floor and wall tiling.all work undertaken.tel (mobile and land line numbers)

Did you go for like a display box or just lineage? Mine is just linage

Yeah £77 to be exact! You get a discount for booking a whole month at a time. £22 a week i think normally.

I think the name impressions tiling helps too. I have round that every job I have got that I get the impression they have had no other quotes. I erckon if you get to an estimate quick and are professional in your approach and attitude you will get the job. (as long as you don't over price too much)

Just my opinion! Good luck to you mate, you seem like a decent chap!

Customers wanting discount or not paying?! My tutor at college (learning carpentry whilst tiling part time) sold a handmade chair for:angel_smile: 5K! and he still gets customers asking for a discount because work not up to scratch! His Dad gets the same, he even went back in one house and started removing the handmade kitchen he'd put in! Customer paid full on the spot!

Advertising - I've created a free blogspot, put a counter on it to see how many hits and advertise in local newsagents. Also Sainsburys have their local traders cards I believe it costs 1200 quid but a carpenter friend gets all his work through this, never advertises anywhere else and is never without work.

Hope that helps.
