Newly tiled hallway but gaps all around the edges

It is what it is.. So, the bathrooms you rip out, usually have Silicon filled movement joints in the corners?

Yes, most do. These ones I am often asked to replace due to changes in personal tastes by new owners or wanting a new suite.
Dare I say it, but the few I am ripping out that have no Silicon are often being ripped out due to bad workmanship elsewhere.

Precisely my point. Thank you 😉

Hahahaha.....I was making a point also!.......in that when I see no Silicon in internal corners that this is a tell tale sign that there is poor workmanship elsewhere and these are the reasons people are having a rip out. This trait together with cutting slots in tiles to accommodate pipes are a couple of most tilers pet hates!

I did notice the little dig, but chose to ignore it lol! There's nothing wrong with my workmanship, I just don't do things blindly. When I started tiling, I used to leave a movement joint, but could never get the Silicon to look nice, especially with the coloured Silicon (which rarely match the grout).. As none of the bathrooms I was ripping out, had movement joints, and there didn't seem to be any detrimental effects, I started doing it that way. If I get any issues, or come across any failures due to lack of movement joints, I'll go back to putting them in. 😉

i really cant believe that this is still running ,ive been and done a small toilet floor ,cut round te sink and the bacin there was no skirting on so i did a tiled skirt ,put the Silicon where it should be and mi knees are bloody killing me

Anyone who can make an expansion joint look anything better than average is a better man than me, apart from the fact they are not meant to be grouted!! Interestingly, I was grouting with micro max smoke a few weeks ago and was aware we had no matching Silicon so I grouted all the corner joints, I was not overly proud of the result but the customer was happy. Maybe we look to closely in to our work who knows but I will be sticking to Silicon for movement joints and grout for grout joints.

Corners, be it wall or floor joints are denoted by British standards as movement joints and therefore require a dedicated movement joint that serves purpose or a Silicon bead.
