ive replaced close coupled cisterns where the china has cracked due to being siliconed to the wall/ the cistern fixings supplied allow a small amont of play to avoid stresses, same with the fixings to the floor

not a good practice and can cause serious damage if no ones at home when the cistern cracks

The cistern fixings to the pan allow movement but not when the cistern is screwed to the wall

Thankyou to all who have been so kind to both welcome me and give advice.I will drill and secure both the pan and cistern,but another question if you please.
I will definatly not be taking on a project again,would i be able just to use a masonary bit to achieve the holes i need?

try and use a scribe to break the glaze first then drill very slowly with your smallest drill piece not on the hammer setting as a pilot! it may take a few mins but it should go through,then use your 8/10 drill bit depending on what size it is?

You'll need a diamond tipped drill bit for porcelain or tungsten carbide tipped with a constant water feed, then make sure you drill fairly slowly, and don't aplly too much pressure, let the tools do the work, and keep the drill bit wet. A masonry bit will just go blunt immediately and probably skate across the tile.

You will be lucky to drill Porcelain tiles with a standard masonry bit..?
