Non-Silicon sealer that can be tiled over?

Hello Everyone
I'm going to be retiling a bathroom for a customer next week and I just went out to see it and theres a bit of a problem, they have plywood on there walls which they have sealed with Silicon, all the tiles that were over the Silicon fell off so the place has to be retiled from top to bottom, my question is what type of sealer should I use instead of Silicon? would a polyurethane sealer be used for this? would the tiles adhere to this and would there be any problems down the road?

So basically you need to tile over plywood in a wall situation? But the plywood has a silicaone coating over it currently which made the tiles drop off?

Yes, the Silicon was spread out over the plywood and the tiles layed over fell off.

You could do with getting all of the Silicon off that wood. What I would do is strip off the plywood and fix something like Marmox boards to the wall and tile over that. Those are impervious to many things including water. If you can't do that, you'll still need to get that Silicon off the wood before tiling else you could end up in the same boat as last time really.

There are adhesive out that will stick to plywood in a wall situation and using a decent adhesive and grout will help prevent the wood getting attacked but I don't think there's a propper way to seal it without tanking it.

acrylic primers are the best, BAL APD is probably the best one to use. It is blue in colour so you know where you have put it, use T cut to remove any dried on bits on baths or sinks
