Re: North East Tiling Training - Tyne and Wear

Well, it's been so good to read all the positive feedback on NETT, having only just decided that I should learn more about tiling instinctively this is the right place it seems, early next year hopefully.

Something that worries me though - I've had a knee operation this year and kneeling is still almost impossible, it's more a matter of sitting sideways on the floor or on a little stool - do all of you having been there think it'll still be ok for me or impossible?

I'm not really interested about professional tiling around toilets, etc, but to be able to install my mosaics ( on mesh) really professionally indoors and out and to be able to incorporate them within a good tiling job when needed - say, tiling around a bath with a mosaic 'picture' in the middle of it, inside a shower cubicle or part of a kitchen splashback etc, you get the idea. After hearing that, would you still say that's the place to go?

Also did you organize your own accomodation (am in Scarborough) or do they have some B&Bs they recommend?

Thanks in advance....

Hi Darren from NETT
First of all the Band Bs available that we use regular is on our website on the contact page, we have just started using a new one on there called the Algarve, really nice and she does it for 20 quid a night, the Seacrest and Kingsmere are where most usually stay, they are all withing 100 yards of each other on the main strip in south shields.

As for your knee, ive had people on before with broken ankles and knee problems before, i usually get them to do the work from waste height up rather than bending down to do the lower stuff. If you can do a bit tiling already and are just wanting to concentrate on designs and inserting features into walls, we have loads of stuff that you can do on the bespoke 3 day course, might be the one for you as thats mainly about design work and we can taylor that course around the individual a lot more where as the full blown course covers everything you need to about tiling, backgrounds etc and running your business and everyone tends to follow the same structure through the course program.
Let me know what you think
Darren

Hi Whitebeam,
Try putting a 6 inch block of polystyrene under the red mat you have there and gaffa tape the whole lot together, you will find it more comfortable again as your toes wont get cramped and it takes the pressure of your knee caps as more of your body weight will be distributed across your shin bone
Try it and you will see what i mean, a must for doing a lot of floor work

Hi again Darren,

just had a good look at all of your courses, all sound so interesting and the three day one a bit(?ooohahh:-/) advanced, but as you say, probably more what I need. Then again I really like to learn things properly, and you never know when it all may come in handy, I may turn into a glamourous mosaicing and tiling granny one day! So, more thinking and deciding to do, it'll be one or the other or a combination anyhow. Really really like the tone of the courses and the others' feedback confirm the quality of it all.

My husband is getting quite concerned that the idea of learning all about tiling is exciting me so much it's giving me sleepless nights with all the ideas I'm having! But seriously, to learn a proper trade properly at the ripe old age of (a very young I might add!!!) 48, well wouldn't that be something! I may start off with the three day one and then if I really take to it, fill in the gaps with the four day one later - would that be ok?

Sorry about going on, just preoccupied with it all....
