Mike, Starrett is our gold standard here. I recently treated myself to two Starrett combination squares. Big ,money, but I know these things will go to my son someday. The cheapy ones from Empire that I use out in the field day-to-day...maybe not.

If you can, I'd like to see a picture of your Starrett tape.

Axminster No.1 Odd Jobs : Buy Axminster No.1 Odd Jobs at Axminster Power Tool Centre

Thanks for posting that link Sir R, that is what originally was called the "Stanley Odd Job". I don't have one of those but apparently original antique versions are worth a few bucks. Garrett Wade company has been making reporductions for sale here in the US. It looks like someone else is doing it for your market.

The thing I am looking for is a metric folding rule with the sliding extension on it, like this one:

Catalog No. X48 Product Detail

I now have metric folding rules but none have that depth extension. I couldn't find one anywhere on the web.

Its German mate try some German tool sites youl find it there somewhere.
Lucius.

The metric folding rules that I bought are from a German company, very well made, but without an extension. I couldn't find them anywhere on the web,and I even posted on an international woodworking forum with many Europeans-no one had any leads for me. My buddy is stationed over in Berlin and is fluent speaker of German...I'm going to ask him to search for me over there on German launguage websites.

We are starting to get more and more hardware that is metric, and all my Festools are metric, so I've had to start stocking metric tools. I just bought a metric tap and die set to clean up some metric hardware that wasn't threaded properly.

Speaking of tap sets, that is another thing to post in this thread. I have Grandpa's old tap and die set...all of the tooling looks to be from the 1930's and 1940's.

Ive got a Lufkin engineers decimal foot tape measure, handy for multiplying feet measurements to get precise areas
