I've noticed in some of the 'complete set of tiling tools' that you can buy they often include a suction cup such as they use for lifting glass panes.
has anyone ever used one of these for larger tiles and are they any good?

yes they are good if you have to change a tile on a floor or have a large slab ect only cost £5 max

They also come with drill templates so you can steady the drill bit whist the suction cup is fixed to the tiles, very handy for diamond hollow drill bits.

abskiing

I use one quiet a bit especially useful on floors and when using large format tiles..if you need to make a slight adjustment on walls(Large travertine etc ) then its better than using a scraper and chipping the tile....just slap on the suction and lift/pull the tile into place etc etc...would be lost without one now.......

Its a good point whitebeam...we have suction cup type giudes for porce drill bits....useless on riven surfaces.....Gaz

On the ones that are not heavily riven...The trick is to wet the suction cup to get a good suction.........But as a tool they do have there uses......more suited to large format travertine etc...that's difficult to manoeuvre about once on the wall or floor.....

Used mine today..........great for sliding the tile into place..........especially on a plasterboard wall..........where a smack or tap with a rubber mallet can (and has a few times) dislodged things hanging on the wall in the room next door:yes:

Nothing makes ya wince.........when you bed a tile in with a mallet/thump...........and then you hear a crash :whatchutalkingabout

I went into a 99p shop two weeks ago for some hair stuff and as went to pay I see some suction dent pullers on a shelf close to the till .... 99p each!!!!

Got a couple in the tool bag now.
