A householder now wants ceramic tiles in her hallway instead of parquet flooring. I thought that Hardibacker would be the solution, but reading through different threads I now believe that the parquet is best taken up. A tiny bit of the edge of the parquet has worked loose and it has this black tar like stuff on the bottom. If I take up the bricks of parquet and scrape away the black stuff will I need to do anything else....or will I probably have to lay 6mm Hardi? Or something else?
It’s a typical 1930’s house with an L shaped hall (widest point 1.65m – shortest point 1m). Thanks Sean

Remove as much of the bitumen as you can then prime with an epoxy primer.
