Discuss Tiling over parquet floor in the Australia Tiling Forum area at TilersForums.com.

hi everyone. Am I able to tile over customers hallway , original (old ) parquet flooring if I sand with a 40 grit mechanical sander , hoover up so dust free , apply an sbr / tiling primer , and bond an uncoupling membrane ie; durabase ci onto it using flexi rapid set addy . Would this be an ok and professional method ? Has any one else done this ? Many thanks in advance. Steve ( professional tiler for 15 years but never had this situation)

Just thought I’d put the question out there . But I don’t think i would be 100% convinced it would work with nmp or un coupling mat . So am now quoting for taking up parquet floor (22 ish mm) and replacing with levelling compound , leaving a day then tiling onto that . Nice n solid and would be confident in that working ok .

Thanks Julian , but I wouldn’t want to mechanically fix orbry or Marmox boards to parquet floor with screws n washers as I feel this would dislodge and loosen the parquet pieces . ..Andy are you suggesting I remove parquet and fix the marmox boards down using jst a solid bed flexi adhesive ? With no need to mechanical fix ? Bringing back up to original height and then to tile onto . Regards , Steve

Yes...
Remove the parquet, seal the black tar crap with a slurry coat, or suitable primer, fix marmox boards down with flexible adhesive.
They come in thickness from 6mm to 50mm..

Remove the parquet. Putting a waterproof layer over parquet can entrap moisture which could blow the parquet and everything above. Sticking the Marmox to the adhesive with cement base adhesive is not advised as it may not adhere. Overlay the adhesive with Arditex NA or similar two part and then stick down, or mechanically fix over the parquet adhesive for guaranteed fix.
