I had hamsters when I was younger. Much for the same reasons most parents get their children pets, to teach them some responsibility. I even had a couple more hamsters when I was in my late teens and was working for Focus when they used to have pet stores adjoined to them. Mr GRR and I have a dog and we will continue to have dogs even when Baby GRR arrives. I just wish the current dog would be less racist, less noisy and less mardy. I'd quite like a dog next that will play with toys and chase tennis balls in the garden. And hopefully a dog that will be Baby GRR's closest friend

I think it is a good lesson for kids to look after pets. We have a German shepherd called Fizzy a bearded dragon called Draco and a hamster called nacho

Pets are great for kids, the choice is a hard one as most parents will end up doing most of the lokong after,
Sam has 3 ferrets, they are a great pet and are loved by the whole family, even my wife who did not like them at first refers to them as her babies. Out of all of us, Sam get's away with murder with them, he throws them all over the place and they never bite or nip him

One of the 2 cats didn't come home for his breakfast one morning and despite asking all the neighbours and local vets, he's not turned up, that was about 2 months ago. We have a local lady who takes in strays and has been in the local rag begging to people to re-home some of the cats, so we're off out to do our bit for the community tonight and get Sonic a new mate, hopefully they'll get on!

This is an old thread to drag up! The one remaining cat is nearly 5 now and I'm glad we got him, this is pretty much how he and my little girl sleep every night, inseparable. He's an absolute sod for bringing dead and alive stuff into the house but, we wouldn't be without him.
