I never spend less than an hour discussing a job with a prospective client, thats where your salesmanship comes in

Yep, sometimes you get a good feeling while you are there, a good connection. Hey ho. On to the next one.

Be carefull promising to squeeze it into a week and a half as well mate, your making a rod for your own back if there are unexpected delays or you simply need the two weeks you originally beleived you would need.

Well I have to say I don't think there's much more you could have done mate. She still might come back to you so just leave it now and if she does she does, if she doesn't then so be it.

We'll probably see some photo's of it in a few weeks with a thread titled something along the lines of "can I withhold payment over this poor quality work I've had done?" and the pictures will be of a ceiling falling in, really badly prepared walls with tiles stuck on with grout and grouted with adhesive and, well, you've seen the threads.

I'm with Mike on the pestering thing though mate. Could have shot yourself in the foot there a bit. If you do ever need to call try to say you're just calling as the week they wanted it done might be filled in with another job if it is they're still undecided. Or something like that. Gives 'em a nudge but doesn't put them on the spot.

She's doing her homework and in the end it is not just price that customers buy into.
Re quote the job without the UFH and suspended ceiling as she may have a budget of £2k.
Good luck.

Im with the ther guys im afraid i would never chase a job like that. I only ever contact them again if i had a good rapport with them and then dont get the job but just ask for some feedback on the estimate layout, content etc.

Perhaps she thought you need her more than she needs you? I also never agree on a set time to do the job, perfection takes time

I've seen their faces drop when I tell them two weeks for a bathroom refurb but thats what it takes so, as oli says dont say you will do it faster because things can start going wrong when you start to rush.

And sometimes they add loads and loads on with no notice, my last one went to 4 weeks, now he did pay and paid well but it still puts things back. I agree with the lads, never chase work it comes across as desperate.
