fixed approx 1mtr2 of my ceiling due to old water damage last night re-boarded and is now set but there are lips.... whats the best way around it shall I just give it a skim over? do I need to pva before skimming?

It seems like your've used 12.5mm plasterboard rather than 9.5mm board which may be already on your ceiling...am I right ?

a bit of both mate and whitebeam its basically 9.5mm boarded ceiling... and then another old 9.5mm ceiling lol didn't now until I took it off but I double boarded so it fit but some of the area is still a little bowed out but solid

Why not take off one piece of plasterboard then use thistle bonding to bring it flush with your existing ceiling, then finish....or buy a one coat pack.

You can buy smaller packs of plaster from B&Q

its already up now mate just wanna give it the once over n then paint aint gotta be perfect... can I get a ready mix product as ive never mixed plaster and want the correct consistency so theres no problems in the future lol

How much lipping have you got, 2-3-4mm etc...

deepest is about 10mm where the ceiling is still bowed out but majority is just 3-4 mm

Got to be honest your best bet would be to remove one layer of board, 10mm will be difficult to hide even if you plaster the whole ceiling and even trying to feather out 4mm won't be that easy.

Think if it was a tile it would be unacceptable...

I understand if it was a tile it would be unacceptable lol it will look ok when its done as I said it aint goota look perfect and its saved the landlord having to get a plasterer out so shes happy lol is there a specific type of plaster I need to get to go up to 10mm? or is any old stuff gonna work?

oh nah mate the 10mm lip is inwards so needs filling... the actual ceiling is bowed out a little because of the water damage but is solid

You would need to pva on the ceiling and thistle bonding to feather it out to hide the lipping, when that has set then some multi finish to smooth out and coat the bonding.

nope never plasterd... the main thing I was worried about was the board not being solid but its turned out it has set and is rock hard... can I go 10mm deep with any plaster and wont have it crack in a weeks time?

Oh nearly forgot, you will need to scrim the joints before plastering on the new and existing surfaces of plasterboard...

Just make sure you sheet up before starting and mix up outside if you can....

ok mate can any plaster go up to 10mm thick?

Thistle bonding should be 8mm, so 10mm would be acceptable but you may find doing 5mm first wait it to stiffen up then another 5mm, otherwise you may be wearing more than there is on the ceiling.
