plasterboard question.

I have read in to this a bit but who here tapes joints and primes platerboard , so far I havent primed platerboard is this wrong.

No, not wrong, just not really necessary most of the time. I still prime plasterboard though and did so this very morning!

You don't have to prime plasterboard I don't, but there are always situations where it is sometimes better too.

I now prime plasterboard as a matter of course.
I use Weber set plus & it states that you must prime plasterboard with PR 360.

I don't skim joints, I just make sure that I run my trowel up the taper so my adhesive is the same depth as the rest of the board.

Yes I read that about weber gear , do you fill taper as you tile or do you fill first let dry then tile.

I primed & taped plasterboard today........I tend to prime anyway. Had a moment, and taped the joints as well.

If using a ready mixed dispersion adhesive then I believe it is not necessary to prime plasterboard . However if using a cement based adhesive then the plasterboard should be primed according to all the data sheets I have.
As for taping the joints with scrim, I do because if the tile joint aligns with a plasterboard joint then it will add little extra stability underneath the grout joint

I fill taper as I tile provided I'm going full height with the tiling.

If its only tiling to say border/sill height then it's taped before I tile. This can lead to a bump on the wall though if its not been taped properly.

If I use tubbed then I don't prime, it is mainly Weber set plus I use now so that's why I prime the boards.

Not necessary to prime plasterboard , but It can't do any harm either so its just your preference !

I always use "tapered" PB....and I scrim and fill with rapid (just because it removes the taper)......but I cant think of a time I have "primed" plasterboard.......

Just a couple of points while reading this thread -
1) check the weights of large format tiles prior to fixing on plasterboard ( bare and skimmed)
2) do not use a tubbed dispersion adhesive on large format porcelain tiles.

that question (1) never arises from a client IMO John..........so I have added it as "ADVICE" on the "about" page of my new website........

oh and if you dont know....(the general public and not you John!)

so save yourself some money and DONT PLASTER WALLS THAT NEED TO BE TILED!!!!!

oh.....and I avoid tubbed like the plauge!!!....... hheeheheee
