IMO Priming is only "REQUIRED" if there is an issue with "Suction" or "Dust"...

but i have been wrong before and no doubt I will be wrong again!

I did a bathroom a couple of weeks back Stef, and the client changed the towel rails (after I'd tiled and cored the holes) the plumber needed to get into the studs to alter the pipes, the tiles had been stuck with set plus less than 24 hours earlier and ripped the plasterboard to pieces getting them off, all that was left was the back paper, all the gypsum and front paper was all still attached to the tile. Save yourself a few quid and don't prime bare PB's.

I have tiled with set plus with & without primer & I noticed that without primer the boards were sooking a lot more moisture from the addy.
I know it will probably be ok without primer but I've got into the habit of priming bare pb now.

Priming never hurts.....ever..........

I have had a forum member say you can "over prime"......you cant........but you can get the dilution wrong for the substrate......and that is a different issue......

the best bit of advice I have was given to me by a legend..........if in doubt mate, PRIME IT!

hahahhahhahaaa.......I think he was getting the dilution rates wrong Whitebeam..........obviously if you add more primer than is required for the absorbsion rate of the substrate you will get a "skin"
and a skin can be peeled off.......so if you prime incorrectly..........you might as well be using PVA........hheheehehheeheeeee........

I use primer g and mapeband on joints in wet areas where I apply mapegum wps.

I prime if its been on a while or if ive just stuck or nailed it, i don't usually prime, but can't see it doing any harm, just a pain in the assiender

It would be useful if a representative of one of the adhesive companies can clarify why they are stating that it is necessary to prime plasterboard when tiling with cement based addy.

As I asked why no answer yet. Adhesive company's will tell you any thing to sell more gear. But if you ring the tec dept and ask do I have to prime plaster board and you should get a honest answer and I know what the answer will be lol.
