Promised the missus i would decorate my wee ones room this year so ripped everything out this mng built a fitted wardrobe unit out of the dreaded mdf and then tested myself on skimming the walls with multi finish - sweat was peeing off me on first half of wall as i mixed it just a wee bit too much so hard to work but second half mixed well and got into a rhythm and found it relatively easy - finished wall early this evng and wife goes over it with fine tooth comb and not happy - hey ho only first go so room for improvement - :whatchutalkingabout Anyone else had a go at the black art of plastering and to what degree of success:ninja:

Hi mate, i did a weeks course which got me to a reasonable standard then went out and laboured a few times with a mate who`s been doing it years. I`ve done a few jobs for clients now and had no complaints

Turkish:thumbsup:

currently training to be a plasterer at college, just finished my first year, well i will in 3 weeks!

my first attempt tho... haha i had jsut watched a "tutorial dvd" from ebay so had a god down my old cellar, it was way to wet anyway to start with and i just made a mess everywhere and gave up  thats what pushed me to go to college and learn properly, love it now, takes a while to understand it all and how to solve different sircumstances etc but you'll get there, just practice lots and you'll soon be able to skim to a decent standard and be able to offer an extra service

Allright Turkish - Where was your course?I thought about going on one last year but know a good reliable plasterer and his work is mint so put me off.Always wanted to try it so had a go - do you get reasonable amount of work out of it?:8:

Course was in Kent but if you know a decent plasterer just go and learn from them if poss, i got loads of good advice of my mate! Alot of it is having the knack of the trowel and hawk and not trying to get the first coat too flat. Get a fair bit of work out of it though!

Turkish:thumbsup:

sounds good mate - seriously considering getting a course - may chin plasterer when he comes to finish other walls:lol:

i think once people find out your a plasterer then you'll have work from people you dont even know cos a friends has mentioned to their friend blah blah, once you advertise your phone will be ringing healthily. as soon as a tiler mate of mine advertised plastering in the local rag along with his tiling skills the phone rang 2 days later and he made £750 plastering and tiling their kitchen

ok mate, a course will give you the basics, then pick up any tips you can from your mate then practice, practice, practice!
