I am about to do a cusomers Kitchen floor, they have plyed out the floor with thin ply 2mm thick, I am not quite sure this is thick enough, however the customer is reluctant to get the floor re-plyed! Do you think this pply will be ok to tyle on?
I personally would be much happier ripping the whole lot up and re-plying!

2mm ply? i think the thinnest i have seen is 5mm or 6mm and even that is not suitable to ply onto,,i wouldnt do it mate,,it will come back and bite you in the ***,,9mm is the lowest i will go and that has to be a solid floor for that otherwise12mm or 18mm
Yea it must be that its relly thin stuff already laid all i know is that its really thin just wanted to check, goig to tell them 2 rip it up and re-ply, thanx 4 the advice!

The other option you've got is 6mm hardibacker if I am correct.

Much stiffer that the equivilent thickness in ply. I've seen it used in bathrooms but not kitchens.

In any case you will need to use a flexible adhesive.
Agree CC, but it sounds like another penny pinching customer doesn't it

Had the same thing last week, customer said floor had been plyed, i couldnt see untill i started the job as i had to remove Amtico floor first, once removed...2mm hardboard stapled down....And they wanted 600x400 20mm thick limestone fixed to it. Told them it had to be removed and 18mm ply to be fixed otherwise im off the job. I did the job to my spec not the customers.

same as above mate just not worth it, i would tell them only way of me doing job is either 12mm ply, or the 6mm hardi board, with is supposed to be equal to 18mm ply, but as said sounds like a penny pincher, so will, he pay for all the extra matts, and labour to lay ply or board, i doubt it, save your rep pal
