I've just layed 9m2 black and cream polished porcelain from wickes...absolute nightmare...had to sort through all the boxes to pick out tiles which weren't damaged...3 seperate trips to Wickes had to sort through approximately 30 boxes of tiles in order to get 9m2 of good ones...one pallet they had in all tiles were destroyed because someone at manufacturing stage had numbered the tiles with a pen :yikes: which had soaked into the pores :mad2: ended up having to get them to get more in from other stores etc etc to top it off cutting those black ones is a nasty business. I sealed them with HG Impregnator before laying which was freaking hard work. :44:

Next job like that i'm going in v.high

I just signed up to sympathise with the above chap; I had a very similar nightmare with Wickes tiles.

I bought about 100m2 of these tiles (white & black for different rooms across a few houses).

First problem - the 'White' were nowhere near white - more a Ivory colour. The photos they used on their website/brochure CANNOT be the same tiles.

Next problem - couldn't find anthing to remove the transit wax - tried all sorts of detergents etc and was concerned about damaging the tiles and their finish. Eventually found baby wipes worked a treat.

Next problem, once I'd removed the coating, I found that MOST of the tiles were damaged (with some severe abrasions on them) and the coating was hiding it. Out of a box of 11 tiles, I was usually finding only 3 or 4 were without damage. I managed to do 2 rooms from what I had bought and took the rest back.

Some of the threads in the tiling forum that have had a lot of views are being bumped up into current discussion. Just walk on by if it's not your flavour right now. Perhaps it'll help somebody out one day, and they become members, and then they post a thread, and professional tilers respond, and then you learn something from them...? Maybe?
