Porcelain tile problem

Tilers Forums Official Sponsors

Hi
My builder is doing a lift conversation for us. He has tiled the walls of my existing bathroom but has asked me to change the floor tiles to from porcelain to ceramic as he can't cut around doorframes and pipes as he keeps cracking the porcelain tiles when more than a simple cut is involved.
He says they are impossible to cut . His workmanship on my loft is great so far and he still needs to tile the loft bathroom. We want porcelain tiles and don't want to comprise.
We have curved shower trays and holes need to be cut for pipes and electric shaver sockets. How hard are these tiles to cut? Is there something I could hire to make his job on my tiling go smoothly? I don't want to fall out with the builder, just want a good finish to the job.
It seems that when cutting a piece out for door architraves the tile breaks on the second cut

Why are you getting the builder to tile is the first thing you should ask yourself, would you get a tiler to do the building work, you need to upload some pictures of the tiles, and what needs to be cut, can't really see there should be an issue.

Odd as i usually ask folk to change floor tiles from ceramic to porcelain.

He can trim the architraves with a multitool and slide quite a basic cut under it.

My main guess though is that you have a builder tiling and not a tiler. A tiler can cut porcelain and deal with these issues as we face them daily.

The thing to hire to help make it easier will be a tiler, get him to sub the floor out if he isn't capable.

Skirting and architraves go on after the tiling is down that way the cuts are kept to minimum , porcelain is the sporn of the devil and needs good quality cutting tools and a tiler who understands the material . Kop
