I just wondered which machines you have compared them with to make that statement. You seem to have just Sigma's

im pretty sure that statement is true m8, im not knocking your cuttin machine either as they look great btw and they probaly cut good aswell , iv never tryd one or heard of it so i obv wouldnt know or been able to compare it to a sigma

but guys have still found some tiles hard to cut cleanly whatever cutter ?

Rather than answer this directly I will lay it out for you.

Porcelain is a refined product which can be harder than granite

The PEI scale rates porcelain by its hardness 0pei to 5pei effectively 5 differing forms of porcelain.

Most porcelain has a grid on the back which makes every cut you make different (this is personal opinion)

You can see that there are very few constants involved yet the class cutters manage to overcome these. Its ipossible to attain a 100% record when cutting tiles as there are things going on in the tiles as well its a question of the best horses for the right course

They are not my cutters raimondi are a class act making very high quality tools for our trade, you buy raimondi and you buy once, I know this.

porcelain is very hard to cut but my rubi dosent have any problems cutting it wat type of wheel is on your rubi is it a floor or wall? use floor and snap quick puting presure on the tile will only mean it breaking plasplugs not recomended to flimsy not worth the money.

I'm pretty sure there is life on mars but I wouldnt say its fact as that would surgest i could back it up 🙂

this debate looks like its going to run and run, people use different cutters, they stay with what they know and have always used, so long as the job is done right with whatever cutter the tiler uses .

sigmas are better though:lol:

spot on m8

this still doesn't help me with my problem with the amount of pressure needed to snap these porcelain tiles with my montolit. Also...These are damn expensive tiles so 100% success rate on clean cuts would be appreciated. This really is not about who produces the best cutter, they are all good cutters, the pro. ones that is. The question should be would you reccommend your particular brand because it easily splits Porcelain. I CANNOT reccommend my Montolit. The fault lies i think with the snapper arrangement. The Sigma and Raimondo look virtually identical to the Montolit, but until I can get to test them out i would suspect that they would be no better. What we need is someone to test the lot on the same sample of tile. Is there anyone out there who has access to all four makes?

Incidentally,I had a conversation with a bunch of tilers today re. Porcelain.

One wont touch the stuff.
One splits them with a Sigma and has to thump the splitter.Any machine cutting is done with a dry 100mm angle grinder. He has no wet cutter at the moment.
Third one uses a small up cutting machine ( bed cutter?)
Two of them dont want to know about drilling holes in the material....I should have asked how they cope with pipes!

i havent had a tile other than other than textured that i couldn,t cut some way on a rubi i have used a sigma no problems dont think its as good on fine work like mitering 1/2 mm makes a lot of difference both have there good points
----
just to add its a feel you have some of my guys have been tiling over 20 years they still bring some cuts to me when they having problems may take 2 or 3 tiles to work out how to cut them

thanks pjc. I agree that you have to get the 'feel ' of the tile that your working with.Your an expert by the time you lay the last tile and sods law says that you wont see that particular tile again for months! Just remind me.. which Rubi do you use. A mate of mine has just bought the 1200 which has a BIG splitting jaw , ( no rear splitting pin)he reckons its great on BIG porcelain

hi len mate..i bought the tx700n ( 1000kg breaking power) a few months back now and it snaps porcelain for breakfast...havnt come across a tile it wont break yet....

Forget your Rubis, I just finished a big porcelain job today - 600x300s and my BIG CLINKER cut every one of them cleanly, even slivers as thin as 1".

They aren't the most delicate cutter around but they aint half good for porcelain!

Sorry Graces dad but i cant see how 10mm thick porcelain can possibly be cut to 25mm strips on a manual cutter. Theres no way that any splitting attachment can sit that close to the edge of the tileand split 600mm tiles! I need convincing please. Any chance of some digi pics of the business end of this super machine ?

If i was you i would make sure you are signed up email promotions. The first one is being sent out this evening .

Brought a TX 900 about 8 years ago only thing I could find that was long enough to cut 900 tile and it still has its uses now and again but not as good a cutter as the ts 30-60 yes I can cut 25.4 x 600 strip

what sort of porcelain have i just been dealing with then. No way could i apply steady pressure to get it to part split. I was stomping on the handle to split them!!! Bed type wet saw wasnt impressed either.Very slow wet cutting...and a wandering blade. Mitred cuts were a nightmare, ended up doing them with an angle grinder. I was not happy:mad2:
