Hi all
Hoping for any experienced advice regards how far i have to go removing paint on plastered walls.
Have just been to a possible customer and the plasterer told him while he was decorating the bathroom ceiling it would help me if he also painted the walls as well.
He's painted on two coates of Dulux smartec fast matt.
The tiles been used are 1000x330 about 10mm thick ceramic from porcelanosa. The walls combined are 33m2.
Would scoring with a blade be enough or a sander better or even both? if a sander do i after take all the paint off so there is just the pink plaster left or is very well sanded, scratched paint okay.
Also to do correctly is it fair to say it would take a day?
Not looking forward to it.
Cheers all
Kev

I think the plaster is going to be your biggest problem, as due to the size of the tiles i dont think it will take the weight, 20kg per sqm on plaster.

Thanks all
That was going to be my next follow on question if weight could be an issue.
Bit of a dilemma, theres 3 more bathrooms if all goes well in the customers eyes and telling him plasterering was a waste of money isn't a good start but then a falling tile isn't neither.
Is it a tough task taking off skim back to board?
Cheers.

I wouldn't say to him plastering was a waste of money, just explain the weight issue, explain that if a tile fell off and hurt somebody, and you are not prepared to tile this substrate...You are the professional giving him the advice. Best option is for him to get another tile.

Have weighed the tile today and it was 7kg so 21kg per sqm meaning 1kg plus addy/grout over.
Explained weight ratio to the customer who listened fully and appreciated the info.
Has said he would have a think but got the feeling he will still want the tiles going on to skim
Is 1kg plus addy/grout classed as been massively over the weight allowance?
Cheers
Kev
