price for drilling porcelain

For the London jobs its a lot of commercial work (Banks, Hotels, Shop Fitting) for example we spend three days on site at a London Bank to drill holes in corridor tiles so that ADT could lock down their glass doors with a quick release magnetic bolt in case of fire.

A lot of fiddly work but it was £600 for that job and the actual number of holes drilled was 5 pairs.

We do some domestic work (maybe about 14 houses a year) but they often want to negotiate cash prices and dont like paying the £200.

I'd price it per hour, + expenses + cost 6mm drill from 365 drills - 'cause they are the best you can buy.

U know it !

i have to admit richard that the 15mm and upwards bits are good but my 6 and 8 mm didnt even go through one hole i kept them wet and didnt apply too much pressure am i doing something wrong al the diamons just rubbed off

If I was quoting for the job I charge £3 per hole (rads/shower/water pipes etc). Putting up towel rails, cabinets, shower risers, bathroom shelves, shower curtains etc can take a bit of time. Normally the customer will give you the box containing the item. You have to unpack it, read the instructions and make sure you don’t drop any of those tiny screws down the plughole! You also have to make sure all shelves are level. A few months ago I accepted £50 from a builder to put up 3 items. Easy money I thought. It turned out to be 5 items each requiring four 6mm holes drilled into porcelain (20 holes in total). Apart from burning out 2 of my diamond drill bits I had to go out and buy another one. It took me half a day! You will have to explain to the customer that porcelain requires special tools to cut it. You will have to charge them too. £50 seems a fair labour price plus £10 for the drill bit. Cheers Sean
