OK so this is how a £200 job stacks up...
1) Load up the car with the tools.
2) Arrive at the scene and say hello to the road sweeper! - Make sure he doesnt sweep my car away....
3) Pay for 3 hours parking at £1.80 on the telephone.
4) Check the customer is there... Yes customer thats his CAR and he is at the apartment...
5) First lets have a coffee
After all it was a 1 hour drive in to London.
6) Survey the rooms in question (Two bathrooms)
7) Photograph all the customers markings for his holes. In case of dispute.
We photograph everything before and after.
8) Start drilling those very EXPENSIVE tiles being very careful and taking time.
9) Measure Measure Measure! Here we see the guide plate about to be used.
10) Cores are coming out like bullets out of a machine gun!
Going really well. Customer is very pleased.
11) Finally Perfect 6mm holes in C5 Grade very expensive FITTED tiles....
Any errors... And its ££££ time!
So now here is the breakdown of the money:
Started off agreeing a flat £200 fee.
Customer had already bought 2 x packs of cores from us @ £29.99 x 2.
Asks if he can give a pack back so we discount £29.99 from the £200.
Thats £170.
Then we have used his drills from the first pack so we allow £20 for that.
Final bill is now £150 which he pays to us on a credit card.
Thats now become inclusive of VAT. So thats £127.65 + VAT @ 17.5%
It cost us £5 in petrol to get there and back in the smart for 2 hours travel.
It cost £5.40 in parking.
It cost us £2.12 in credit card handling fees.
Total take home pay was £115.13
After I paid for daycare that left me with £65.13 to go out to the pub.
How did a £200 London job get to £60 quid! - No wonder he drives the 2 seater Porche and I drive the 2 seater Smart...
