Price per SQM too high

Tilers Forums Official Sponsors

I've been quoted £40+VAT for my tiler to tile labour only with me supplying tiles grout everything else.

I'm thinking that's expensive up north.

Would you agree or disagree?

Get a different tiler. It's a free market economy after all

Quite often you get what you pay for, meaning ,the price might reflect in the quality and experience of the tiler. By all means get several quotes, however if you are willing to pay peanuts you may get monkeys.
disclamer- no idea what tiling rates are in this area of the country. To me £40 m2 , seems about right for a quality job.

So many factors to consider when tiling!
£40 per metre might be really cheap if you're fitting handmaid Moroccan, hand painted, single fired terracotta tiles in a herringbone pattern, around 4 corners in a house which is 100 years old with corners which aren't plumb!, or it might be a expensive if you have a nice power floated concrete floor and you are fitting 450 x450mm in a room which is square with one doorway!

Listen, GOOD tiling is the hardest thing in the world to price!, there is no such thing as an absolute flat metre rate! For example,
A 3 metre kitchen can easily be 2 days work!, therefore, is £120 too much to pay?

it all depends on job and spec of tiles... some jobs have a lot of trim work to be done, most tiles need back buttering, and some walls are not the best, which requires more adhesive...... 40m2 with adhesive trims and grout seems fine me...
£35-00m2 inc labour, adhesive and grout
£40 with trim
