Priorities

When you have jobs booked in, do you give any priority to higher paying jobs or more regular customers? Or book them in the order they call.
I have a little job booked in for 2 days next week, average earner. But an opportunity has arisen to be on a different job, double the money, neither are regulars.
I tend to treat them all equal, normally!

Most of my works priced the same so it makes no odds to me.
But I book work in as and when I get it. And i Try not to mess people around or you end up with a bad name..

like many, I have regular customers, builders and shops who pass me work, upto 50% to 60% of my business comes this way and having regular dialogue with them regarding my work load and availability means I am able to keep them happy and new customers happy and have a full diary (7 days a week ) a few months ahead.

Regulars customers know to try and give me as much notice as possible, some one ringing on the off chance offering big money I would be wary of

My friend works for a building company, they have a small job that needs doing short notice and he wants me to help him out. It's not tiling. But as said, i don't mess customers about.

we enjoy life, like to eat in nice restaurants, holiday on little islands in the India Ocean, nice car on the drive and come home each day to a lovely home normally no later them 3:30 each day.

I try and do a 4 day week. Probably works out at 4.5 days a week at the moment. Never week ends.
I'm not lazy or rich, I just don't want to be a workaholic absent dad like mine was.

Figure there's plenty of time to feather the nest once the kids have grown and left.
(it'll be easier to keep nice and clean then too!)

7 days a week! Wow, hats off to you, if I work a month solid I'm done! Couldn't keep that up. Earning power must be through the roof though, could you pm me your earnings @JulianSidney just as a comparison? May look into upping my work load if majorly different

One of the benefits of being self employed is the choice of job and number of days to work. It can also be a drawback as you are always thinking of work - 7 days a week! The earning potential in this trade is limited by only your skill, your desire, and ultimately the number of hours available. It's the old adage 'you get out what you put in' so more power to that man from Essex!
