Hi

I attended the PTS Course at Warrington some time ago and found it very useful. The course comprised of both classroom and hands on. All the basics were there such as preperation, cutting the use of adhesives and setting out. There was a business lecture for those who were thinking of going into it full time. Since doing the course I have picked a lot of work up so much that I am in the process of going full time. Any more info just ask.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the PTS course......... but can i please point out that the fact that you have picked up lots of work is nothing to do with PTS, you went and found the work not them and good luck to you for it.

I have been non stop since i completed the course but this is 100% totally and completely down to me and my non-stop effert into becoming a proffesional tiler.too many newbies are false fed fantasies about how easy it is once you do a course ( ok, they may not actually say that but in those exact words but that is the image that someone with no experience receives) let me tell you now, if you want to make this a full time proffession then you best be prepared to work and work long hard hours...

If you are prepared to do this then you will love this game but if there is a bit of you that is a tiny bit lazy or you lack self motivation then save your money and do a different trade because people like me and wivers and many of the other newbies on here will just eat you up with our relentless work ethic.

Please note that i am not moaning or digging people out here, i am being truthfull, ask Wivers how he feels when he gets in after a days work (7-5) then goes out until 9 doing quotes... i can tell you he is knackered but he loves it and so do i and that is how you have to be if you want to be a success in this game (and not just earn a few quid here and there, anyone can do that)

By the way, i am not saying these courses are crap but don't be fooled into thinking its all a bed of roses to be successful

ps. if anyone contradicts my message i will hunt you down and rob your tiles!

I agree, no motivation= no money simple as that, you must always strive to be better than the rest, and like Wivers and TJ always do if you need to know the best way of tackling a certain job, don't be too proud to ask

How did i get in this conversation ehh?

Make him right though. You can spend 4 months on a course, and it'll teach ya how to tile, but ya can't teach motivation and desire to succeed in what you do, its all down to you.

Some of the courses out there are great and give ya all the platform ya need to di well, but the next steps are all yours and if your doing well for work you shouldnt be thanking anyone else but yourself for your own hard work and maybe a few of the tile distributors for taking the large backhanders to only use your cards :)

Anyway Lads wot you been up to today? i 've been sitting on me arse watching telly drinking beer and farting.... its a bloody hard life.

By the way....Gaz is dead right, don't be to proud to ask for help, there are a couple of jobs i would have struggled on and probably got wrong had i not asked.

You can learn more by asking people such as Gaz and dh, and most of the more experienced tilers on here questions than you could on any of the courses. They give you answers that earn you money too  so ask away mate. There knowledge is pricless, trust me

I agree 100%, you have to work hard and be motivated if you want to succeed at anything. But I also believe that you cant fully learn a trade in 2 or 4 weeks, but after reading lots of other posts over past weeks a course seems a good stepping stone to becoming a good tiler.
Anyway got myself booked onto the chase tiling course, and hopefully in few months I'll be able to pass on some useful advice to another newbie, like lots of you guys have.

cheers for the advice

Agree with all of the above, you never stop learning once you finish the course but its your dedication to learning that makes the difference between a good tiler and bad, building your job knowledge putting the hours in and selling yourself to the customer that you are the man for the job your skills together with customer care make all the difference. Its all about attitude, if you enjoy your work you will go far.
