Quote and tanking advice please

Hello,

I'm after quite a bit of advice if that's ok.... ;/

I'm very new to tiling and have been asked to tile a bathroom approx 22 meters square using large 35cm x 25cm tiles on to a plaster background. I have suggested the bath area be waterproofed using a water tanking kit.

Question 1:
What would you quote roughly for tiling a bathroom of this size including the water tanking procedure?

2. As I've never actaully used a waterproof shower kit, I'm not sure which is the preferred choice and whether I should tank the whole of the bath area, in which case would I need i.e. two water proof shower kits?? ;?

Actually as I think of it, I have loads more questions but rather than bombard you with them all at once, I'll stick with these for now! Thank you for your time.

first of all,welcome to the forum.

Depending on where you are in uk there are different price structures but for an approximate quote here goes 450 for fixing tiles and tanking,if it is only shower area you could charge 50 plus the price of tanking kit but only if you can start your tiling while you are waiting for tanking to dry,otherwise you will need to charge your day rate as you will be wasting a day tanking.

I would be around £500 plus materials.

You won't need to buy 2 tanking kits, there should be more than enough in 1 kit to do what you require.

I would be charging £550 plus any parts for that job myself... i Know some guys that would charge anywhere from £400 to £750.

ready mix

Hello I don't know if I'm posting this in the right area but here goes......would BAL White Star be sufficiant for tiling with 25 cm x 33 cm ceramic tiles which are porous. As I'm new to this I'd rather start using ready mix if possible but am worried it might not be strong enough for the larger tiles any advice grately received, thank you.

that adhesive will be fine with that format of tile... best to back butter aswell to obtain a solid bed..

Hello,

I said porous as when I rang BAL that was one of the questions they asked. They said as long as it was a porous tile (as in water would soak in quickly on the back) it should be ok. Granted I should be happy with their advice but I thought I'd ask around for further opinions just in case
