PM me if you want them.

I live on a second floor flat, room is vacant with electrics and plastering done. L shaped, one door.

Nothing in my opinion that is particularly unusual.

Job requires boarding out, laying out, sealing, grouting, sealing.

The materials from Topps is 500-600 to me so maybe 400-500 to trade. Maybe a better question is how long would it take you guys to do 18.5 of the above? That way I can work out a day rate.

One complication is that our kitchen fitter obtained the first estimate, the tiler only came round on the weekend to properly take a look, he might have been conservative initially in case the job was a bugger as he had not seen it then. So I am awaiting the formal quote - fingers crossed it's less

Well that's it then - if Andy thinks its ok - its OK.
You have to be happy with whoever is going to do work for you and the price has to be within your budget. If you can't afford him but think he's going to do your job properly, wait till you can afford him.
There is always someone who will do the job cheaper but do they tick all the same boxes.

Well I only use powdered adhesives and I'm pretty sure that the vast majority are modified ones ie suitable for porcelain.
I thought I'd check on my earlier post and have just looked up all BAL and Weber powdered adhesives on their web sites. As I suspected, all the powdered adhesives by both companies are suitable for porcelain. These include the usual slow set, fast set, flexy & non-flexy plus PTB, Thick Bed etc. etc. I generally use Mapei P9 slow set and Keraquick for virtually all my work and I know these are also suitable for fixing porcelain. I daresay its the same with most if not all of the quality adhesive manufacturers hence my original comment "I'm pretty sure that the vast majority are modified ones ie suitable for porcelain."

Very true but we need to beware that many also have a recommended maximum tile size when using porcelain. They have a little of the expensive stick stuff built into them to bond well to small size porcelain, but for larger tile sizes the (usually slightly) more expensive mix with more additive built in needs to be used. For example the white cement based I use most often for wall tiling is only suitable for porcelain tiles up to 40 x 40 cm.
Just a friendly warning to tilers to check the data sheet before just using an addy based on the big writing on the bag! but fairly irrelevant to the original post (sorry).
