Had a call today to regrout 20sm of bathroom, not to sure what to charge or even how long it will take

i have a fein so should i use this. i worry about chipping tiles especially at the x join as some tiles arnt flush and square.

What do you think ?

Just another general question. How much are the BAL WP1 Waterproof Shower Kit from Topps for tade account holders. /would you waterproof every bathroom with a power shower, even if the customer is on a badget ?

Two different question there to answer, saves on the extra thread

I would charge day rate for the re-grout. Its a ***** of a job, you will probably chip some tiles and there will be dust everywhere. only do it if you're stuck for work.:mad2:

As for the waterproofing i suggest it to every customer, but very few want to go to the expense.

You can buy a kit for shower's with all the bit's including a mesh for the bottom of a shower if you were doing a wet room for about £40 and I find it's easy to use, But you may only need the fibre tape £5 a linear metre which go'es in the corner's a metre high and around the shower tray, You don't want any showing after you've laid the tile's onto the tray and a larger tub for again £40 without all the other bit's With full instruction's, That's what I get charged you may find cheaper near you

I think I was told the kit was about £70 to me at Topps, what size are the tiles on the re-grout?
I'd be looking at £200 with materials,if they think its expensive give them your grout rake and ask them just to do a quick line, they don't think its too much to ask then lol.
Tell them there is always a chance of chipping the odd tile, the only way to avoid is to re-tile the whole bathroom.
If you come to +and the tiles aren't spaced properly this is where you use your rake also at the top and bottom of the lines.
Always use both hands and concentrate with the fein and you shoudn't have any probs.

Don't turn down work Tys when you don't have much work on mate, take on anything.

Don't be supprised to find that to re-grout a full bathroom might take just as long to finish as tiling it from scratch, maybe even longer, as to do it propperly you need to remove as much of the old grout as possible.

Then you have the prospect of damaging quite a lot of tiles too, as it only takes a slip and you've just sliced into a tile or 2.

I know of one person who once said to me a re-grouts easy and quick, he just scraped a couple of times into the grout lines making only a narrow channel then re-grouted it up again.

1. It looked bad, and 2. He got endless call backs as the new grout just wasn't holding onto the old grout still left in.

Customers often think it's a quick easy cheapo job, and it isn't, and to charge accordingly can be quite horrifying for them

And think on, if you do damage some tiles and they don't have any replacements left and you can't buy any anymore then you might have a customer demanding you re-tile the whole bathroom out of your own pocket, tiles included, and really you wouldn't have a leg to stand on if that happened, as it was you who damaged the old tiles.

Re-grouting jobs.... I'd have to be desperate to take them on if it was a full bathroom... a kitchen spashback then yeah maybe, but a 20 sqm bathroom... ugh!!!
