Relative Humidity

Hello all... I am just quoting for tiling a couple of Anhydrite screeded floors.. (first time)
So I have been doing a bit of reading up..
I may be filtering a few questions out here and there over the next couple of weeks, but in order to be able to test the moisture content of the floor before floor prep etc.. how many of you actually take there own readings?... Or do you just follow the drying guidelines and hope for the best.
I would like to be able to test the moisture content.. but there seems to be a big range of hygrometers out there, and I question the reliability of them???
If you do it yourself, what type of meter do you use?

Thanks Dave

Never hope for the best mate. Most people, myself included use a digital hygrometer. Mines a F Ball one which cost about £100. There's loads of threads on here about anhydrite floors, you need to read up on sanding/hoovering/moisture testing/ priming....

Yes, I have been doing lots of reading.. Can you tell me where you got the F-Ball from?
Thanks

Any other recommendations on which hygrometers?

Just found this.... Looks interesting!! How have you got on with yours Bri?
Yeah I've got 2 digital ones, they do a grand job, used them on a few floors now. I'm on an anhydrite floor this week as it happens, some big 900x450 porcelains. The hygrometers I've got are homemade ones by the way, @Sir Ramic did a how to thread a while back, foam blocks and nursery hygrometers.

Cheers.....
Here we go with another.. Do you usually hire a sander, or use your own? Obviously the area of floor will answer this, but what is the cut off point between industrial hired sander, and your own. in your opinion.

I always hire a STR701 floor sander from a local company. I've got a variable speed polisher which I use on the slowest speed the get in areas the big one wont reach

I've never had to do the sanding, always get the developer to get the labourer to do it (it's cheaper for him that way). Any bits they miss in the corners I use a grinding cup on the variable grinder.
