Hi folks, Im starting a job next week (a bathroom) but theres artex in the room everywhere is there some easy way of getting rid of the artex ie a tool, or is there an adhesive I can use to that will adhere to the artex hope this maks sense and I hope everybodys haveing a busy 2008

You can remove it with a steamer. It will be hard work but i have done it many times.
A word of warning though, some artex type compounds have been known to contain asbestos so be careful.

its also very hot so take a spare set of clothes and some clean boxers,oh and a towel....im not kidding, watch for those hot drips.

Scrape ragged edges off first with a scraper.

Good comment SIR Ramic about asbestos m8.

very wise words Neale, please be extra careful everyone, always when dealing with old artex...err on the cautious side....wear a quality mask.....Gaz

I use to do artexing with plastering, First point it all depends how well it was originaly put on, personally I would get as much off as possible. A paper steamer work's well, but god is it messy or use a scraper with the changerble 4" blade for a good scrape. One thing to remember artex contained aspestos in the early years so find out how old it is, I think it was in the mid eighties but recently companys seem to use the year 2000, men in white suits come in and remove it

hi i would suggest using the very sharp 4 inch scrapers due to the hazardous aspect of steaming, you could have it plastered over with browning and then tile.
