Replacing UFH

I have a job to quote on and its something Ive not come across before. The customer has UFH under a tiled floor in kitchen. There must be gaps between the mats because there are cold patches when its on. So the customer wants the whole lot re-done. Their system is from Wickes.
Can the new mat be wired into the existing thermostat and does it have to be another Wickes one? I assume the probe will also need replacing.
The floor is wood with ply on top which I was going to replace with new ply.

cheers

I would just go with a new system and thermostat to make sure the new warranty stands..

You will get a cracking deal from Uheat... another tilersforums sponsor...

Same as Dave, the thermostats are not expensive. I would not use UFH from wickes if I had a choice.

As above and the thing is that even if you did use existing thermostat and had problems later...who would they call ? you may as well have the full guarrantee from UHeat and know the system is the best you could install.

Didnt think about the warranty, Doh! Makes sense to replace the whole lot.
Cheers guys.
Is UHeat as good as Thermonet?

We use the Thermonet system as they operate on 150w for timber floors.
The warranties are 10 years for the mats and 2 years for the thermostat.
What thickness ply are you fixing and have you considered extra insulation of even a backer board (Hardie/other) instead of the plywood.
Check the height of the void area beneath the flooring - we recently completed a kitchen floor and couldn't get the temperature up above 24degrees! It transpired that there was a 6 feet gap under the floor with a stream running through it! In January that water must have been pretty cold. When the job was estimated there was no mention of running water!!

It's not often you hear of UFH being replaced just out of choice. Should be a nice job overall that should.

I'd definitely replace the probe if you're pulling the floor up, as part of the thermostat they only come with a 1 year guarantee usually. But you should find the thermostat works but as said above, you could be risking your warranty for the extra £35 or whatever it is.

uHeat are spot on. The make is Elektra, a very big firm who provide a very good warranty and warranty period. - Lifetime Warranty in fact. 🙂

I used to live in a street that had that problem under around 50% of the property. Never heard of it before or since then until you mentioned it. Very weird. It was a natural stream that the builders couldn't get rid of when they built the street so they simply built over it. The 50% that didn't have cellars were the ones with the stream problem and my house didn't have a cellar but I never had any problems from the stream and never really found out if it was still there. We did used to get a lot of problems in the gardens though due to the water not draining away very well. Flags used to float around when you drove over them when it was really bad weather and had been for ages. Used to use a bag of sand a year getting them level again afterwards!

Sorry, a bit off topic there
