Rough floor

How'sit hangin lads, I've got to tile this floor

with slate, it's a new floor, quite level but rough surface, should i put self leveling compound on first to smooth the surface, is there i minimum depth i have to put down or can i just fill in the pits, without increasing the hight? Any help would be gratefully received.

you can fill in the dips with levelling comp Ed,just add a drop more water than the bag says and it will self level..pour it out in lines and trowel into general position....Gaz

Before you do that though, give it a good rubbing with a house brick to take off any higher points. Doing that and then letting a bit of SLC find its way around should give you a pretty damn good floor to go at.

cheers gaz cheers dan, i'll try the brick, will post some pics when the job iss done. i can only tile part of the job just now,, because the joiner is fitting a new door, but not for two weeks, so i have to leave a bit around the doorway. should put a Silicon bead around the edge before the skirting goes on or just grout it. Sorry, but also should i seal slate tiles before i lay them or after.

Oh, and i forgot to ask should i prime the floor before i put self leveler on, or after or both, or sod it and just put tiles down

I'd grout around the edges not use Silicon. Read this to learn more about slate. Again if in doubt i'd seal.

Not sure about the SLC, i have never used it.
