Scaffold or ladders??

Hi guys
Hope I'm posting this in the right place!!
Just starting my business and have been asked to skim and tile a large hallway.
Question is - ceiling is pretty high, do you guys suggest a small scaffold or couple of ladders as being bets to get up there??? Cust wants a tile border under the cornice..and also need to skim ceiling. Just unsure what's the best plan?

Hi Julie

Have a search around the internet for a Working at Height risk assessment. Probably best to carry out a risk assessment of the area you'll be required to work in before deciding what the best equipment is to support your work.

If you do end up with internal scaffolding equipment, have you factored this into your price for the job?

Thanks for the info! Will have a look for the risk assessment. Luckily have ladders and am able to borrow a small scaffold if needed. Hadn't thought about the risk assessment tho!

ps.check your cornice is absolutely spot on leverl before you tile especially if the last tile is a border finish

Scaffold every time. Fallen off too many ladders painting ceilings.

Thanks for advice, have you ever tried stilts? Or are they a nightmare.

And thankfully I'm putting the cornice up so (fingers crossed !!) it should be straight!

Yeah one of the tutors on my course swears by stilts..And a stilted trestle table .he reckons that if you invest in decent ones they are a huge time saver... Would hate to look like a clown however !This forum is such a great source of info for a beginner like me!

i use two ladders and scaff board over the ladding sorted as a spread my self i do this a lot and works well for me anyway

stilts are good just cant have them on site mate anymore H&S will kill you not the stilts mate lol

I think ladders along with folding hop-ups are banned on site, scaffold only (HSE):yikes:
