Shower Tile Repair - Tile Waterproofing in Brownstown MI. Do you know what the Romans used to waterproof their areas? I would be interested to learn more.

There's a lot of material available online regarding ancient waterproofing techniques. A good start would be to Google the term Opus Signinum aka Cocciopesto technique.
There are other waterproofing Methodes used throughout the history from clay, natural resin and fats, soap-oil mix to volcano ash, seawater and lime. Lime, sand, black soap and bee wax etc. Bitumen was also used throughout the world to waterproof buildings, showers etc. California and other southern states in US still use bitumen as a waterproofing material for showers. Next time when you pour down a mortar bed shower tray (floor) apply several coats of latex SBR on top. The SBR will penetrate the mortar and the whole surface will become 100% waterproofed.
