Screw holes

Ive got a conservatory floor job coming up - its concrete screed and would be a straightforward job. However, there is a drain hole cover inside the patio door. Its completely flush with the floor which means i can tile over it and cut a profile to match the outline and finish it off with metal trim. However, my problem is how to deal with the drain cover screws in each corner. The choices as i see them are:
1. Untighten the screw so it raises to the same level of the tiles but risk that the screw thread may not be long enough or worse still, break the seal of the cover venting the drain into the conservatory!
2. Drill out access holes in the tiling but leave the core in
3. Fill with something which could be dug out if the drain cover needs to be lifted.
4. Use suitably sized screw caps

Any suggestions welcome, especially from anyone who has faced this problem before..

If the drain cover ever needs to come up then its a big problem, I would order a couple of extra tiles so that if it was needed to be removed you could lift the tiles and then the cover. Refix tiles once problem is solved, job done.

change the cover for one that can be tiled into and sealed by screwing down from the top

youll regret doing anything else if you get a problem and the line backs up

I'd go for 2 or 4 as a budget option, or as mike says for the more professional finish

Sometimes a raised cover cannot be utilised. In that situation I usually drill the screw holes and fill the "holes" and drain cover profile with Silicon.

It results in a very heavy drain cover, should it need to be lifted, but if you discuss the options with your customer, then I am sure you will find a solution that suits.

Thanks all. I also spoke to Richard at 365drills and decided to go with keeping the drill cores in place and grouting.

Its also against building regs to tile over a manhole/drain cover. It must have an access point.

Exactly. Thats why im tling to the profile of the cover and retaining access to the securing screws so that it can be lifted if required..
