How are we all tonight. OK i put down s,l,c onto concrete floor today, all looked good, until holes started to appear in it. is this ok, is it because i didn't prime the concrete first. Didn't seem to be a lot of air bubbles in it. Please tell me i don't have to dig it up again:icon9:

cheers Edd

possilbly because you didnt prime, but did you use a mixing drill? if you did you might have mixed it too 'fast' that can trap air in the mix, it should be ok just tap it when its dry to see if it sounds hollow

yes i did use a drill to mix it, so i should have mixed it slowly, that might be where i went wrong. cheers, sc. I will go back tomorrow and check it.

Similar experience here, tried to stone off a couple of high spots with oil stone and water but eased off on the water when it was seeping through the air holes.

From experience you always have to prime and not pva it should say on bag eg pci primer g ardex ardion90 Ive been on jobs where ive had to rip up whole floor from existing tiler didnt prime and re doit, made life easy the whole lot came up dead easy. The only other way you might just get away with it is use a latex screed. A little trick when going over underfloor heating I always screed it with a latex screed when its dry you can get your lines through instead of struggling to keep it straight with the wires going mental and building up no need.

also a tip for slc, if you prime the floor it can make the slc flow better as the screed doesnt suck the moisture as quick

also wet the floor with a watering can before pouring and to reduce air bubbles run a spiked roller over it

You will get a reaction between the leveller and the concrete if you dont prime, this reaction causes air bubbles to form, you still get the bubbles if you prime as well, just not as many, what you really should be doing is going over it with a spiked roller just after you have poured it, that will release all the bubbles and give you a mirror finish, just prime the top of what you have already done and tile away, as said it will be ok, panic over Edd

Cheers Darren, i was getting worried there, settled now. After all you told us about priming i should have known better. I will prime from now on.

Cheers Edd
